STANZ is an incorporated non-profit society providing learning opportunities for individual traders and investors who wish to manage their own funds whether it be foreign exchange (forex), shares and CFDs (Contracts for Difference), futures and commodities. We believe technical analysis or a combination of technical and fundamental analysis can help traders and investors understand more about timing their trading and investment decisions.
Notice of February General Meeting 2014
You’re invited to come along to the STANZ February Meeting held at the Epsom Community Centre, 200-206 Gillies Avenue, Auckland at 7.30pm on Wednesday 19 February 2014.
The Long-Run Performance of the New Zealand Stock Markets: 1899-2012
The equity premium – i.e. the excess return of stock market over risk-free rate – is one of the fundamental measures used in finance, taking a prominent place in asset pricing and corporate valuation models and specifically in determining the cost of capital. Estimation of the equity premium is complex as historical measures are typically dependent on the time period used to compute the premium (and as such is prone to economic cycles). Consequently, a long-term data series is needed to compute estimates of the equity premium.
The Auckland Centre for Financial Research at AUT have computed the equity premium and evaluate the long-run performance of the New Zealand stock market. Using historical records of the Wellington and Christchurch stock exchanges, we are able to construct a continuous stock market index for the period 1899-2012.
Drinks and nibbles provided. We hope to see you all there!
